Bar soap to liquid soap

Bar Soap to Liquid Soap

I am often gifted lovely handmade bar soap which turn into a gooey mess left sitting a soap dish. Now I grate them up, heat up 1 litre (1 quart) distilled water, add in the grated soap. Stir gently, and let sit for five or six hours to thicken. Pour into soap dispensers — no fuss, no mess.

I pulled out a trivet to place on the counter, only to remember, I made it as a 8 or 9 year old, at a summer camp where my mother taught crafts. (Trace a design on to a metal tray, then scrape off the coloured coating to reveal the metal.) Design is off centre but that’s why I knew it was my handiwork. Not sure where it’s been hiding all these years…

This is such a cool upcycle…and I love your trivet, too!

Thanks for the idea! My sister-in-law sometimes sends nice soaps as gifts, and I usually just donate them since I only use Dial for showering and always use liquid soap for hand-washing. I’m eager to try this!

I used to pass them along too. Now I get to enjoy them. I first started ‘liquifying’ soap using Dove bar soap because it was soft and easy to grate, then realized almost any bar soap works.
