When I made a Chunky House using a tiny bit of fabric from a stash that a friend had willed to me, I decided the best way to honor her love of sewing was to use the fabric instead of “saving” it. These fabrics are old, so they are thin and fragile. Not good for clothing or quilting.
I have had this free pattern for some time. Perfect for vintage fabrics and quite fun and easy to sew.
Actually, it was hard to stop making these! I made enough to fit into the basket I already had.
I hardly used any fabric, so if anyone has any ideas on what else I can make, I would appreciate it! They are all blues with one or two pinks. I’ll also offer up some in the Use it or Lose it thread if anyone wants some!
For other ideas- do you have mutual friends with your friend who willed you the fabric? You could do Christmas ornaments for those that celebrate, you could make bookmarks, fabric wrap frames, those prosperity hens that a few here have done, use some to make a prayer flag-type decoration to hang in your craft room or as one flag on a string of flags with different sentimental significance, drawer sachets, pocket warmers, tissue covers, maybe use it as background for one of your planned Christmas chunky houses?
You had me at basket of cats. Lol. I like the colors and folksy feel of them.

Thanks! I am thinking of making something for her best friend, who is now also one of my best friends. They were very close. I like the idea of Christmas ornaments! It has to be something that isn’t used a lot since the fabrics are fragile.
I think maybe some scrappy Christmas trees backed with fleece or interfacing might work!
