Book of Stitchery #2 - A Sewing Zine

I had been wanting to make a second issue of the sewing zine I had made a couple years ago. I got as far as updating the cover art last November, but finally made it a January goal to make the actual zine pages. (I used Rebelle 3 for painting/drawing & GIMP for lettering on my Microsoft Surface Pro 7).

Topic for Issue#2 was sewing a button! (I just did my method, although I know everyone has their own way/technique, but it was easier for me to try to show and articulate, hopefully in a manner comprehensible for beginners).

The reverse side of the one-sheet zine is a ‘flyer’ of the cover art:

I plan to distribute some of these to the Free Little Libraries in the area again.

I’ll upload a pdf here when I’m able to sneak a minute at work to create one (since I don’t have a pdf editor myself) for if anyone wants to print and share them.

I think we assume that simple sewing tasks are known by all, but I am betting there are a lot of tasks that many are just learning or need to learn!

Frankly, I wish I had better instruction as a teen on things like how to fry an egg, how to put on mascara, and how to separate and do laundry!

Good for you for sharing with others!

Love the artistic style of this…very cool.

And yay for the north country! I grew up there and even lived in Norwood for a year while going to Clarkson.

Small world! I grew up in the woods outside of Parishville, but my small house is on top of the hill in Norwood! It’s not bad for being in town

These little books are such a great idea! I’m constantly amazed by how few know how to do these things. But I can see how it could happen. I tried to teach my daughter the basics. She didn’t want to learn. Now she has kids of her own and it will be up to me to teach them because she doesn’t have the know how.
