I’ve embroidered a little here and there, as an accent or detail on something sewn or knit, but I’ve never embroidered a full image. My son and I decided to take a free embroidery class together when the opportunity arose, and this was the result. It used satin stitch, split stitch, and chain stitch. All single strands of thread. We did not finish it in class. In fact we didn’t even get to start the project in class, the whole time there was spent practicing stitches on a different hoop. I used more color variants than the instructions called for, and though it’s not perfect, I like my cheery patch of California Poppies. It took me far longer to complete than I expected, despite being quite small. It’s apparently sized to fit on an altoid tin. Ultimately I’m hoping to use it as the center of a quilt block to make into a pillow for my mom’s birthday.
This is so pretty! The idea of including it in the pillow you’re making sounds like the perfect finish.
