Prompt: Blockbuster, Haunted House Team: Cabin Stargazers Project Name: Susuwatari Project Link: Brief Description: These are Totoro no susuwatari, cousins of but slightly different from Spirited Away no susuwatari. Project Photo(s):
They are soot sprites from the movie My Neighbor Totoro. In the movie, they appear in the house that has been vacant for a while, so it seems quite likely that they would be found in a haunted house!
Oh my goodness so many amazing googly eye pictures already! I have been swamped with an enormous organizational project (I have spent over 65 hours working on it in the last week) that I hope to be able to share soon and then get into camp life!
Prompt: Pets . com (I made this for our foster kittens) Team: Cabin Stargazers Project Name: dangling cat toy Project Link: N/A Brief Description: My kids convinced me that we should foster kittens this summer, so we’ve had 2 or 3 kittens at our house for the last month. While they enjoy playing with cardboard boxes and ping pong balls, we needed a more dedicated cat toy to occupy them when they have excess energy. I screwed an eye Hook on the end of a dowel, and made the dangling toy out of a scrap of fleece. There’s a jingle bell seen inside. The kittens enjoy it, and it’s safe for them to play with. Prompt: Yahoo groups (I made this with my dad and my kids, a group of people) Team: Cabin Stargazers Project Name: Jill the Scarecrow Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: When I was a kid, my family read all of the Oz books by L Frank Baum. We decided to make Jack Pumpkin Head for Halloween one year. We put it in the front yard. Naturally his pumpkin head got smashed, so the more permanent Jill was made to replace him. Over the last few decades my Dad has put a new quote on Jill every week, and she has become a neighborhood favorite. Unfortunately, time is not kind to Scarecrows, and despite regular refreshing, Jill had completely fallen apart. So this year, for my dad’s birthday, my kids and I went to his house and made a new Jill. The clothes are all things my kids outgrew. She is stuffed with a pillow. I finally got smart and attached the hair to the hat instead of the head. I sewed two clips on to her dress, so my dad doesn’t have to fuss with pins to attach the quotes. My kids helped stuff her and make the hair, my dad painted the face, and I figured out the logistics, made the head, and assembled everything. My dad is happy, and Jill lives once more.
