Cardboard and Duct Tape Knight Armor - Halloween Spooktacular Entry 2026

We went with a dungeon theme for our Halloween costumes this year. My daughter was a necromancer, my son was a noble cat (or a ghoul in a barrel depending on whether we were trick-or-treating or handing out candy), and my husband and I were their loyal knights in shining armor. My kids made their own costumes, so I am not posting them here, but I made I made our armor, without a pattern, entirely from cardboard and duct tape. It took less than three rolls of tape for both sets of armor. Our polearms are also cardboard and duct tape, attached to broom and rake handles that we borrowed from our yard implements. The armor is either tied on with string, or buckled on with plastic buckles that I attached. I had intended to make pauldrons, gauntlets, and tassets, but I ran out of time. It was raining pretty heavily on Halloween, but the duct tape made the armor waterproof enough to withstand the water without issue. They were surprisingly easy to move in, and kept us warm and dry, though visibility was limited through the helmets.

How fun! I love the use of upcycled materials and they look fabulous.

Thank you!

Those turned out amazing!

I remember making a knight’s helmet out of cardboard and foil when I was a kid. Nowhere close as cool as yours. But it resulted in my little brother hitting me on the head with his wooden sword, because I was wearing a helmet. Hurt like crazy!

Those are great and what a fun group costume idea!

These turned out fantastic!!!

Ouch! That is definitely something my kids would do. We went to a foam sword making workshop when they were younger just so that they could make sword that were safe to spar with.
