Cherry-Pineapple Dump Cake

Inspired by my fellow Nerd Games participants who made food inspired by various decades, I turned to the 60s for food iseas.

So first, I just wanna say that nobody should eat the jello monstrosities of that era. I mean if it’s really your thing. Cool. But uhm….are you okay?

And second, you can tell people, mostly women since they were often doing the cooking, were leaning heavily into easy quick meals made possible by the emergence of processed foods

I get that. I really get that. Anyhow, I was intrigued by the dump cake. It’s a box of yellow cake mix, 1 can of crushed pineapple, 1 can of cherry pie filling, 2 sticks of butter, and one cup of chopped pecans.

You layer the fruit.

Then you pour the cake over the top of that evenly.

The you slice your butter and spread it out over the top with the pecans.

It took all of 5 minutes to put together and about an hour to bake in the oven (375 degrees).

Pretty tasty with some whipped cream. Its basically a cobbler cake hack.

Looks yummy! So many of the recipes of that era are allllllllll about processed foods. My grandma had some horrifying doozies.

I love a good dump cake.

I guess adding the fruit makes it a bit healthier?

@Tapestry it’s fairly tasty. I’m not the biggest fan of cooked fruits. Heh. The kid likes it a lot.

@AIMR oh yes, the fruit basically cancels out the 2 sticks of butter.

It does look tasty! I’m glad to hear that the kiddo likes it so it will probably all be eaten up!

I mean, healthy is not what dessert is meant to be, so it may as well be quick.

Haha it’s gone already. Less than 24 hours. And maybe I should have known this but it’s way better cold.

The kid has requested I make it again and soon. And as quick as it is to make, heck yeah I can do that. I think this is big win in my big book.

 That’s great! And now that you mention it, I was assuming cold the whole time.

Two sticks of butter?!?! We do this in my family with one stick. :joy_cat: I actually love this and request it as my birthday “cake” every year.
