One week from now, my holiday season starts officially! We’ve got the office Christmas party and then I took PTO until the new year.
Things I really need to do this week:
get the last cards out
Clean the living areas of the home and get the tree set up (this Saturday)
Finish (stitching) some ornaments for our tree
Go to the craft store and get some supplies to finish some things (the craft store I need to go to is close to work, so it’s much more efficient to go in my lunch break rather than when I’m off work).
Things that can wait until I’m off work:
Wrap gifts
Finish gifts I’ll be giving in person - I’ve decided on a Homer Simpson ornament for all of my siblings, a knitted sweater for my friend’s kid that only needs to be sewn together, probably more things that I’m forgetting right now
Bad ideas:
cast on the red-and-white Scandinavian socks I’ve wanted to knit for myself
It’s this pattern: Merry & Warm / DROPS Extra 0-1051 - Free knitting patterns by DROPS Design The pattern is free and I’ve got the yarn… but I’ve got things to finish! Not just for Christmas. I don’t really need a new pair of socks. But I’ve never knitted anything like this before, so I’m still very tempted.
Those are so nice!
Maybe make them your “12 days of Christmas” project? I find it fun to work on something seasonal but deadline free between Christmas and Epiphany.
I have finally finished ONE crafted Christmas gift. I drew my nephew’s wife’s name for our family gift exchange, and she had an amigurumi crochet kit on her list…so I got her that and a few extras (project bag, extra yarn, stitch markers…). I made her a little notions pouch. I was already at the price limit, so I figured something made from stash wouldn’t count as going over.

Great idea! My niece wants to learn to crochet…she is an “impoverished” college kid so she has no supplies or yarn! I have some pouches already made up. Filling one up with supplies would make a nice gift!
Love the bright contrast zipper and handy size of the pouch…and yeah, if it is from stash, doesn’t count…ha ha ha.
That would be a great gift! As a crocheter yourself, you’re experienced enough to include what she’ll need and skip the unnecessary. All new crafters should be so lucky to have some guidance when getting started.
Everyone’s projects are so cheerful and inspiring!
I finally managed to mail out two small handmade gifts to aunts in New Zealand yesterday, although in my rush I forgot to take photos of course. One was a zipper pouch from a Japanese pattern book, and the other was a set of handpainted watercolour greeting cards.
These pics aren’t the actual items, but very similar (working from the same pattern/idea) -
