I was too tired when I was cross stitching the other night and messed up placement of letters. I picked it all out and now I have this ghost-like version of what was there.
I’m not sure if the floss color rubbed on it or if there are tiny fibers.
The pattern is not in that area, so I’m concerned I may have to give up on this and restart on a new piece of Aida.
Thoughts/suggestions?
Try gently rubbing those areas with a slightly damp cloth (or baby wipe if you have one), it will remove any bits of black fibre left on the cloth. After, you could lightly iron the back, I’ve done this and it shrinks the holes back to normal size.
You might also try a lint roller (or packing tape as a lint roller) to pull those tiny fibers away.
You could put in a background of flat color. I always fill in the background of the pieces I do with a neutral color.
Try putting a piece of removable scotch tape over it, pressing it firmly and then pulling it off. The little fibers will stick to the tape. It works just like the strips to remove blackheads
If it’s washable (fabric and floss from the big manufacturers can be washed, but I wouldn’t wash unknown brands or anything hand dyed) then washing can also help.
Oh wow! Everything you stitch?
I mean, I don’t stitch much but yeah. I’ve never done a design without a background that I remember.
I’ve been combining all the suggestions and so far it is working.
