What can I say, I was raised with a lot of PUNishment! 
My son is in the process of watching the original Star Trek for the first time! He knew that it was going to look dated, but would still be well worth watching! Have you ever seen the movie Galaxy Quest? It really makes fun of Star Trek fandom (in a very loving way) - Jackson is very fond of Galaxy Quest - it means all the more to him now that he is watching the original series!

I love Galaxy Quest! We just watched it (again) in March when one of my oldest friends was visiting. He was probably my first Star Trek fan friend, pre-TNG even, and he had never seen it. There’s a documentary about Galaxy Quest and in it they pose the Galaxy Quest is the best Star Trek movie!

I FLIPPIN’ LOVE GALAXY QUEST! And the documentary is so, so good! Jim & I went to see the documentary in a theatre even, because we were so excited about it.

Galaxy Quest really hit all the right notes. Lovingly teasing, is what it felt like. Kindness for the actors, the characters they played, the fans, etc. Yet, honest in its portrayal of the dorkiness, a-holery, etc.

And the casting was so, so good. Everyone was spot on. Tim Allen as a cheezy Shatner, Alan Rickman poking fun at Stewart’s acting in the RSC. Sigourney Weaver’s own history as a beloved sci-fi bad-ass, now a bimbo with a made up job. And Sam Rockwell, playing all of us as the audience. “Did you guys ever even watch the show?”
