Crinkle cat mats

I made a couple of crinkle cat mats for my cats.
Well really just one of them likes crinkle mats so they are mainly for him.

I don’t have a ton of fabric pieces, mostly just little scraps so used some fabric @AIMR had sent me.

For the crinkle part I used plastic grocery bags. Some people online use the plastic bags from cereal or crackers but I don’t eat a lot of those so didn’t have any on hand. They would be a bit more crinkly though.

Basically you put the top and bottom fabrics faced together and then layer on the plastic and then a layer of batting. Sew around and leave a space for turning inside out.
Turn inside out and then top stitch all the way around.

I used an old towel for the back of this one.

Awww…looks like they enjoy their mats!

Is it the sound they like? I have a few cat toys that sound crinkly, but only one cat likes it. The others seem to care less.

I bet they are comfy to lay on…I think my cats would love the towel side since they seem to like laying in the wash basket when there are towels in them!

Glad you were able to use the fabrics. I still have that line in my stash…

yeah I think he likes the sound.

I think flannel or fleece would work too. I think I need to go to the local reuse store soon to see if I can find some scraps big enough.

Use clothing for the fabric. The back of a fleece vest or jacket is big enough. Also check out the bedding area at a thrift store. Old blankets, quilts, etc are great sources of yardage. We foster kittens and need a large supply of small blankets, mats, box liners, etc. It’s amazing how messy tiny little kittens can be.
So thrifted blankets and quilts cut up and hemmed are a must. I teally like the crinkle idea, I’ve made little ones for babies, but I think our younger cat would be very happy to have one or two.

Yeah thrifted materials are definitely a good idea.
probably could find an old blanket or quilt to use for the batting layer also

Always looking for something new for my babies. This is so cool. I will have to try it and see if my kids enjoy it. I have a sneaking suspicion that Yeti will.
PS, you’re fur babies are adorable!

What a great idea for your kitties! I’m going to try to remember this for holiday gifts for the family cats. By then I could probably come up with a few cracker bags - we don’t eat much that comes in that packaging either.

I love this idea, and your kitty babies are beautiful.

I think I’ll try this for my bubbin, he loves sitting on scrunchy bags. Thanks for sharing it.
