I made this parasol to go with my Renn Faire outfit. Most of the Faires I go to are in the summer and it can get hot, so some portable shade sounded great.
I got a 22" wooden parasol frame online, then crocheted a really big DC spiral. It’s actually all from one cake - I started the solid spiral with the light side and the barred spiral with the dark side, which eventually transition to purple in the middle of the cake. My costume has a lot of purple, so I like that this ties in.
The last round I did SC except for a cluster of DCs where it would meet each rib. To attach, I folded the ends over and sewed them each in place.
It worked great! A nice bit of shade, but not too big or heavy.
How clever! Never would have thought to attempt crocheting an umbrella. Where did you get the frame/hardware? Never mind, I just saw you ordered it online. It turned out very pretty!
