Crocheted Hanger Covers

I grew up using this style of yarn-covered hanger, made by my grandma and my mom, and they are SO useful for keeping clothes from slipping off onto the floor. Now that I’m finally learning how to crochet, my mom taught me how to do this super simple project, so I’ve been making them while watching Netflix with my parents. So far I’ve made four:

And I’ll be offering that top set of three as a raffle prize in June, over at the Nerd Games Craftalong! You can earn tickets just by posting your own projects to the Nerd Games, and there’ll be a lot more prizes announced by June, probably much more exciting than hangers. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I grew up using a lot of these, too! I think my grandmother used to make them for us.

Yours are great!

ooohh! super useful! Are you simply stitching around the hanger or stitching the shape then closing the pattern around the hanger? I love wide neck shirts but they end up on the floor a lot

I just stitch a big long strip five stitches across, and leave a long tail to sew it around the hanger.

No prob! We have dozens in our house and they’re so handy!

These totally remind me of growing up. I thought they were so fancy! I still do!

I wonder if they were a fad during Grandma’s time. I know so many people who feel nostalgic about these!

My gran taught me a sort of weaving technique with these long strips of silky fabric. Yarn is certainly easier to find and your pattern way, way more doable than that old way!

Thanks for the link; I had not seen that technique and it looks sharp! You can also crochet around padded hangers.

These are all practical items, because they help protect the garments from weird shoulder creases… and keep your garments from slipping off the hangers.

I had completely forgotten about these until I saw yours. They bring back happy memories for sure.

Also, I could do this around some of my plastics, and help keep the tops on!!

Great idea!

I was going to say my mom made similar when I was young but used Phentex yarn and then I saw @Magpie post and those are exactly what mom made. I even have two I’m still using.

This is a great idea, thank you for sharing. I have acquired several metal hangers that I think are about to get a update.
