Hey crafty chaps!! Well I’m neeearly caught up now, I’m up to October 2023 now, lol So today I have for you a lovely crushed velvet wrap top And since it was nearly Halloween when I finished it I wore my cute bat wings hairband!
Sooooo, I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, but I LOVE a soft floofy fabric! I wouldn’t normally include crushed velvet in that category tbh, but only because the stuff I’ve sewn before (making Halloween outfits back in my 20s) was the thin horrible stuff that cheap fancy dress outfits tend to be made with, and it was horrid to sew with to be sure But thankfully this stuff was lovely, much more sturdy and luscious but still with a nice stretch, and it’s soooo lovely to touch, I need more!!
Aaaanyways, so I used the Kimono style wrap top by So Sew Easy (it’s a FREE PATTERN whoop whoop!!). I struggled to understand the wording unfortunately, I’m not sure why as I’ve used their patterns fine before, but hey, in the end I largely just used the pattern pieces and then did it how I wanted!
That’s why on mine the sleeves are a little different (the pattern has fold up cuffs), and I made the bottom band into my wrap tie - the pattern suggested snaps for closure, and/or a tie on the natural waist, but I knew that would get ‘eaten’ under my boobs , lol! Tbh it probably would have been more flattering with ties on the natural waist, rather than around my tum, but I knew I’d be more comfortable this way
For the trim I used a lovely teal stretch velvet that I already had in my stash, I’d intended to make a Moto Jacket with it ages ago and still haven’t, but this was a perfect match so hey ho!
Some poser pup photos cos I know you love to see them…
I had a good amount of fabric left handily so I also started a little swing camisole… which has been in my pile of UFO’s since last year but I’m determined to finish it this year, so watch this space!!
Hope you like it!
