Cuckoo Crazy Candy-covered Cake of the Birthday Variety

Inspired by cakes utterly covered with various sweets that I saw on Pinterest, I decided to make one of my own!

It was fun to hunt down a bunch of ridiculous candies, although I do wish I’d been able to find the fried egg gummy.

There were lots of Valentine candy options, so I chose a few of those, too, including the “perfect man” chocolate! :flushed:

It is a 3-layer, lemon poppyseed cake with a lemon buttercream frosting underneath the nonsense.

Thank you! The January doldrums call for some over-the-toppedness.

I hope your birthday was as fun as your cake! This is a pretty cool idea- I may have to steal it.

This is so much fun!!! I love it. And you.

Thanks, y’all!

I’ve always wanted to do something like this, but with cereal. Think Fruit Loops, Cap’n Crunch, etc.

That would look so cool! Just so long as it was served before the cereal got soggy, I think it would be ridiculously, nostalgically tasty, too.

That is super fun!!! :candy: And happy birthday!!

Thanks!

Yeah, the soggy factor has crossed my mind too. All the cake would need to be eaten shortly after decorating. No leftovers.

A while back my friend made chocolates covered in old school cereals, and I can confirm they were delicious.

Each piece could have a completely different taste! :joy:
A place around here sells donuts with Fruity Pebbles on them and they don’t get soggy and are amazing!
PS. I have some of the fried egg gummies right now. My Mom got them for me as a joke because I hate eggs.

Yeah, the cereal on donuts thing was popular in Portland when I lived there 13 years ago - Voodoo Donut may have started it? It ended up that you could get a grocery store bakery donut with Captain Crunch on it, so I was shocked when there was no such thing in the Missoula area that I saw. And you’re right, I don’t think those get soggy, so it could work on a cake!
