Double Width Bath Towel

I’ve been hearing about Double Weave for quite a while so once I bought a larger table loom, decided to give it a try.

After a lot of research, I learned there is a difference between Double Weave and Double Width. Unfortunately I learned some of this after loading my loom, the pattern I chose wasn’t meant to be connected on one side, which produced the white line down the center.

In progress, from the top, open side and closed side …

I have 24” of weaving space but during my test piece I discovered it was best to go a bit narrower for this project so I made it 19” wide, this is how it came off the loom …

Then I could open it up …

Sadly I had issues with the warp and ended up losing about 6” of length so it’s not as long as I hoped for.

This was a gift for my oldest son, who wondered a few months ago what a woven bath towel would be like since he really likes the tea towels I make.

I based it off his favourite hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers. I used their home jersey for inspiration …

Well you may have learned a few things along the way, but I still think it came out awesome! And I bet it’s going to be nice and soft to towel off with after a shower.

Thanks Jennie

This is quite the accomplishment! It looks great and looks like it will be a great bath towel. A jersey from his favorite team is a great inspiration.

This is great for your first attempt at double width. And you got lots of cool tracking!

Love the colors and it’s so cool you were able to do a double weave.

I just learned what tracking was after I showed my sample to an online weaving guild I recently joined.

I still really like it and I bet your son does, too. It’s so special when someone crafts something especially for you in your favourite colour scheme. I love the diagonal pattern. I had no idea you could weave a double layer of fabric on a loom, so I learned a thing today.

I asked him today how he liked it, he said it’s okay but not worth making more so I asked him to explain … the tea towels I make are 10x better than store bought ones but the bath towel wasn’t that much better so use my yarn for other things.

I’m planning to make one for my younger son too because he’s interested in trying one.

I like seeing the inspiration next to the finished towel. You definitely nailed it and it looks great!

This is really cool! I don’t mind that stripe down the middle, I think it kind of adds to the design.
