Dragons Keep Out! A Blackout Poem

Back in 2013, I saw the exhibit Humament, by Tom Phillips, described as “ a series of collages based on A Human Document, the Victorian novel by W.H. Mallock. Phillips has altered the individual pages of the original book four times, each edition creating a new concrete text poem.”

Since then, I have wanted to try my hand at something similar, and blackout poetry seemed like a good place to start.

Here’s my first ever blackout poem, Dragons, keep out!

The text reads:

Dragons, keep out!
mosquito wings
eaten on hands
protests, cries, warning
Good-bye!

It was very relaxing to do, and I think I’ll be doing more of them. I have a whole book to play with!

What a great start! Blackout poetry is very cool. I’ve tried my hand at it a few times… now you’ve got me thinking about doing more!!

I look forward to your next “page”!

This looks like a lit of fun!
