As I am not allowed to purchase ice cream due to excessive consumption… frozen bananas serve as an excellent substitute.
Peel the bananas, remove any bruised bits and freeze. When frozen solid, add a splash of vanilla (I DIYed a bottle a while back) then a little milk (I used almond milk I had on hand) while pureeing, adding a bit at a time until it reached the desired consistency. Since pureeing took a while, I put it back in the freezer for a quick cool-down.
This made me lol . When I was a kid, my mom purchased a cute set of 4 ice cream spoons and cups from one of our school fundraisers. When they came in, I was so confused by their small size because my dad had a giant ice cream bowl that he would fill with ice cream nearly every night. I couldn’t comprehend how those tiny little bowls were supposed to hold anyone’s ice cream. My dad is still going strong on the ice cream train, despite some health issues, so kudos to you for turning to a healthy alternative!
This banana ice cream sounds like a nice summer evening treat! I recently picked up some coconut peanut butter from the farmers market; it seems like that would work well with bananas (I think I just figured out today’s lunch - a sandwich though, not the ice cream version, lol).
My parents got my husband and me a machine to make banana ice cream a few years back. It is still in the box and has never been used, but after reading your post, it has me thinking of pulling it out and making some healthy but still tasty ‘ice cream.’
Tiny ice cream dishes?!? No, just, NO - that means so many more trips to freezer! We might be related - my brother was shocked & appalled I didn’t have any ice cream on hand! (Coconut peanut butter and banana sandwich - yum!)
I have a yonana machine that makes easy “ice cream” using only bananas, no other ingredients. The kids actually love it. I am not a fan so I’ve tried it with frozen peaches & mangos, it works amazingly well. You can throw other frozen fruit in with either but for it to be creamy it needs that base.
