Yes, I really miss swapping, but receiving anything from outside of Europe is just impossible with our customs. Sadly that includes the UK, the duty we have to pay is crazy. I sometimes get stuff sent to friends in Belfast.
@Edel I checked for mail from outside the EU into Germany and here the limit for tax and duty is 45€ if marked as a gift, that should be plenty for a low effort swap. But I think you can always not then you prefer sending to an EU partner.
I would definitely up to organizing but I would prefer not to start before the end of March. @Renstar, @Annchen maybe we can do a vote on the timing?
I think March would work for me as well! Receiving from the UK would be fine for me, we also have that €45 gift threshold. You mentioned before you don’t have this in Ireland @Edel I think it’s so weird that we’re supposedly a single market and a single customs union and there are such big differences in how the law is applied. I know our duties on commercial goods from China are also lower than in some other countries, which is why the NL and Belgium are flooded with goods from China that they then just drive across the border to the destination.
I checked the rules and as long as the actual value of a gift or gifts is under 600 SEK there shouldn’t be any fees. 600-1800 SEK and I’d need to pay tax. Over that and duties are applied too. There are some items like tobacco, booze and perfumes that have additional fees associated, but for a swap package that shouldn’t be an issue, I don’t think.
Sometimes a swap package can be held hostage by customs for a bit, but recently they’ve gotten through without issues or fees.
