I have truly been in a creative funk for the last 8 months. I have sewn, crochet, knit…anything that I can follow a pattern or know what the outcome will be, but nothing that forces me to use my own imagination. With everything that has been going on in my personal life, I didn’t have the brain power to even think about anything creative nor the energy to do it even if I did.
So, to ease back into art journaling, collaging, etc. …all the fun stuff for me…I found an artist, Amanda Trought of realityarts.co.uk. who spoke to me when I did a free art class called “Making Zen”. She offers free background papers that she uses as a jumping point to create. Her style is different than mine, but it felt very natural, so I am trying it.
Basically, you take a background paper (she is doing florals now) and find a face or picture in it. Keep what you want or paint over most of it to get some interesting layers. It really is fun and quite addictive. I was immersed in the process so I know I must have gotten my creative brain cells active again.
Here are my first two. She puts out papers at least once a month.
That’s a cool idea. I know how hard it is to get started when your brain is not “arting”. Staring at a blank page, or a pile of supplies just doesn’t get it moving.
You pages are very vibrant, I’m glad you’re getting back into the creative part of crafting
These are both so gorgeous! I love the colors, composition, and feel. I’m so glad you found something that’s feeding your creativity and bringing you joy!
These are both lovely! There’s something very free about the first one and I love the sentiment for the 2nd.
I also have been neglecting my imagination in favor of following a pattern lately. I should follow your lead!

There is a time and place for all sorts of ways to be creative. For me, knitting, sewing or crocheting with a pattern gives me freedom to focus on the harder parts of life while still doing something fun and joyful. I can tell what I need by the craft/art I pick.
I just didn’t want to get too stuck in that stage, so baby stepping out of it. Thanks…hopefully, I can get back to my own place.
Your paintings are gorgeous, I love them! I’m so happy to see you getting back in touch with your artistic side, and I hope it’s bringing you a lot of joy
