For the Grab Bag swap I wanted to make some items that fit both the F & S in this round’s prompts. At the same time, I saw a tutorial for making your own faux ceramic paint brush rest and was utterly in love. Who knew you can use watercolor on paper clay!? Not me. And thus the two ideas came together in the form of faux ceramic sea slug paint brush rests.
I fully intended to give both away…but that pink sea slug was too cute and she works so well with my brushes… The blue slug went to @Kwality570.
This was also my first time using UV resin and I really love the effect!
@Kwality570 - I’m so glad you like yours! I was amazed at how well paperclay takes watercolor and the blending you can do. The white is acrylic ink. That extra layer of resin over the top really makes the colors sing.
@gozer - thank you! I painted directly on the paper clay after it was dry, gave it an additional 24 hours to dry more, and then painted on three layers of UV resin, curing between each.
At the risk of being an enabler: try it! I’ve used several different resins, as well as resin adjacent things like Triple Thick. UV resin is lower odor, less fuss, and cures a thousand times faster. It’s perfect for thin applications and pretty sure it’ll be my new go-to.
