Femme Fatales (but still the “good guys”)

In the Nerd Games this summer, one of our craft activities was to decorate peg dolls with favorite characters, or ourselves.

Well, I’m definitely NOT a femme fatale, obviously. But I chose two amazing and awesome ladies from Brian McClellan’s Powdermage series. If you’ve never had the pleasure, I HIGHLY recommend these books!

Vlora is a Riflejack, once a highly placed officer in the army, later a mercenary. She has an ability to control gunpowder, which is very handy in her line of work. She can make bullets go farther with perfect accuracy, make her enemies’ own gunpowder work against them, and make even gun smoke in the air attack her enemies. Here you can see her tricorn hat and her sash, along with a pair of muskets and her Riflejack insignia on her chest.

Ka-Poel is a diminutive bone sorcerer. She’s often mistaken for a child- but she’s a mute, smart, fast, and extremely powerful woman. She often uses a type of voodoo doll against her enemies - but these are infused with her own very powerful magic blood.

Here she is with her earthy attire: the big hat and her bag of tricks. Her short tousled red hair and freckles add to her youthful appearance, but she’s all woman- fierce and loyal to her friends.

I was inspired by @gozer ‘s sculpted pumpkin headed peg dolls, to take this notion further than I might have otherwise.

Thanks for looking!

I love these! Did you cut the one for Ka-Poel to be shorter? All the details are perfect and the hats are incredible!

We used to make these, on and off–circa early 1970s. My mother was particularly imaginative–she made my father in a business suit with a briefcase; and anyone she could think of with a cool hat: I know she made D’Artagnon and Robin Hood. They used to sit on the branches of our Christmas tree. I made a ballerina for my best friend (which she still has and is truly, truly frightful with a horrifically drawn face).

I was really proud of this hat, constructed from some velvet ribbon.

I love that you can get the little stands for them, now! Your faces are much better than my efforts :).

Wow! Thanks for the feature!

For the record, the muskets were THE HARDEST to make. Oy. So dang finicky.

@ceep that is an awesome hat! I love that you have had this for a tradition!!

When I pull out my Christmas decorations I’ll see which ones I have. I liberated all of my mother’s decorations from her attic this year but didn’t really sort through them.
