Fidget Hedgehogs

Recently a lot of people in one of my online crochet groups were crocheting these adorable fidget hedgehogs, so I jumped on the bandwagon and made some for myself!

I started by basically following the pattern exactly, with worsted weight yarn and pony beads. (Actually, I did modify the pattern every time I used it; as written, the pattern has no beads on the butt, which makes the hedgehog look oddly naked from behind, so I sewed extra buttons on the butt for each of them).

Next, I used a bulkier yarn and some “large hole beads” or “European beads” (no idea why they’re called that; which European country, even?) to make this cute brown one:

These are so satisfying to fidget with, especially the bigger one, because the beads are all different textures, too, so I can either twist/spin them on the yarn, or just run my fingers over the textures!

Oh my, I need one of these! They’re so cute and I can see the fidget appeal.

These are very cute and clever. As for European beads, I’ve never seen them called that, but my guess is Italian, if they were referring to a specific country.
