Fish Applique Hot Pad

I’m making a baby quilt that has a bunch of applique. I was using the applique stitch instead of zig-zag, which I had never done, so I made a little practice fish. I decided that it shouldn’t be wasted, so I turned it into a hot pad.

The fabric matches my mom’s placemats, so she can use it on her table to protect it from hot dishes.

Love the no-waste mentality. And the little fish is adorable! The stitches look very neat, also.

Thanks, everyone! The applique stitch is pretty neat looking, but it definitely needs practicing! It has 5 “stitches” to complete the stitch (or maybe 4), so it took me a bit to figure out the best place in the stitch pattern to stop it for turning corners and such. I got better as I went along, but I don’t think very many of the appliques on the quilt were what I would call perfect. But, the fish is cute, and the hot pad is functional

Looks good! And another hot pad is never a bad idea! Cool that it matches her placemats!
