hot glue really isn’t for XPS foam boards, it shrinks the foam. I forgot what type of adhesive works best. E6000? Also thinking of getting polystyrene foam. What glue would work best for that?
About attaching objects to other objects and filling in gaps. I sometimes use apoxie clay to fill in the gaps between the objects. Is there a better way?
This is a pretty good resource for adhesives: https://thistothat.com/
Okay. It suggests gorilla glue, which is similar enough to E6000. But it also suggests to use hot glue on the styrofoam. Not the best website, I think.
If you’re working with large enough pieces, I have had luck with construction adhesive on rigid foam insulation.
How large? My stuff is just skulls on jewelry boxes. So usually smaller than my hand
Large enough that you’re comfortable using a caulking gun to apply it. Construction adhesive generally comes in a caulking tube.
ohh caulk. i’ve seen those in small tubes that don’t require a caulking gun. Is that Liquid Nails?
Liquid nails may have a line that is construction adhesive. As you can tell by the name, it’s mostly used for constructing buildings, and what I’ve used it the caulk gun type. It’s not caulk, just packaged the same. They certainly could have it in the squeeze tubes for DIYers.
Gorilla glue is great, I use it to fix all sorts of things around the house in addition to crafting. I also like that it doesn’t smell like e6000 does.

My uses had to be exterior rated (fake headstones and a structure for a scarecrow). I bet Gorilla glue would be great for jewelry boxes.
