Wow!
This dish far exceeded my expectations
I’m not sure of the origins of Savoury Mince, but to give a brief introduction it’s a delicious dish to have on toast for breakfast lunch or dinner.
To make this dish extra special (and avoid too many additives) I made my own dry French Onion Soup Mix. I followed this recipe and used half in this mixture. The first half I made in a spinach Cobb loaf dip… also an extremely delicious dish - I consider dip to be a meal
To make the mince:
You soften one diced onion in some olive oil. Add in 500g beef and break it up in the frying pan. Once the mince has been broken up, don’t keep turning it too much, let it have a chance to caramelise.
When the mince has some nice dark colour, add in 2 finely diced carrots and the French onion soup mix. Stir well, then add 2 cups of water and allow the mixture to simmer for 15 minutes. Add in 1/4 tomato sauce (ketchup) and 1/2 cup each of frozen peas and corn. Keep cooking for a few more minutes until the veggies are nice and hot.
Serve on some hot toast, or it could even go with rice or pasta. It is sooo yummy!
I think using my large rectangular electric frying pan was a great choice because it allowed for space between the mince so it caramelised rather than ‘stewed’ the meat.
Please let me know if you give it a try, this is definitely something I will be making again!
Oh, also side note… the corn I used was home grown in the summer and then frozen. I love that!
