I bought into the speedy jelly roll quilt faze a while back and purchased a jelly roll because I loved the colors. I made the quilt top, but when it was done, I really didn’t like it because of how the colors pooled. Into the WIP pile it went.
Lately, I have been brainstorming what I could make from orphan quilt blocks, which got me thinking of what to do with unfinished quilt tops as well. Ta-da…I needed a larger and taller project bag to hold some large skeins of yarn, so using my prior success at making the drawstring bag, I cut up the quilt and the backing to make one!
First side, the handles and top two rows are also the same as the lining:
I quilted the bottom of the bag to fusible fleece. I left the drawstring part unquilted so that it would draw together/scrunch up easier. It is lined with what would have been the back of the quilt.
I have enough left to do one more bag with plenty of lining left over for something else as well. But, that will be done another day. Bag is now stuffed with my yarn, ready for some cold winter night crocheting!
I’m so impressed by your being able to rework a project that just wasn’t doing it for you into something you’ll actually use. And your fabric choices are gorgeous!

I bought a jelly roll and then followed a video to make the quilt but the way it was done made fabrics pool together. Some of the colors seem random, like the parts I have left over have a lot of black. At least in a tote, you don’t get huge blocks of any one color.
Fantastic job to rework something you aren’t crazy about into something that will be much more practical and get tons of use! You are an inspiration And I love the fabrics too!
