Gingham Table Toppers

A friend of mine looks after the seasonal decorations at our church and she asked if I’d make three different coloured gingham table toppers for the coffee area. She wanted them square with ruffles. I was hoping to find cotton fabric with a large print but was only able to find polyester, small print.

I didn’t want to just gather the ruffle (it’s not my favourite thing to do) so decided to make my own knife pleat ruffles. I wish I’d learned this method years ago.

They are 12” square. Her plan is to put vases of artificial tulips on each one to make it springy.

The knife pleats are lovely and quite even!

I have a ruffling foot that does all the hard work, but I also love the precision of the knife pleats…well done! (hee hee a nod to the GBSB!)…

These are so bright and cheery! And your pleats look great — they look like they would require patience and precision. I’m glad you were able to rescue the yellow one after it got scorched!
