It’s hard to believe that this is my 15th year of making these. I first saw them on deadster, and so I made one. I made another for the following Christmas and I’ve made one each year since. At the bottom of the new one I write in pencil what happened that year. This year the village needed a post office. Post offices here are always green-as are post boxes. The writing of the sign is post office in Irish, in a slightly modified insular majuscule hand-also used in the book of kells.

I was wondering if you got the chance to do a house last year! It is fantastic.
Your village is lovely and each house so unique and fun. I love this crafting tradition, so, guess you will have to just make another street for more houses!
ACK! A wee, glittery post office! I love this tradition so much and am so glad you have kept it up. I particularly like how you document the year’s events on the bottom. It must be a particular kind of lovely to put them out each year.
It really is, as we decorate the trees, the houses emerge one by one, in no particular order and it’s lovely to be reminded of a year, both the good and the sad.
@AntBee they are not my original idea, they are apparently an old US tradition, putz houses, loads of patterns online. It’s always a busy time of the year to try and get them done, but after a couple of years, they created their own momentum, so it’s now a non-negotiable every year. What’s lovely is that my daughter has done the cutting out and helped me decide on the design, for the last two years.
