I can highly recommend watermelon carving. It’s very easy, a watermelon is much easier to cut than a pumpkin.

Lol at first I thought I might point it out to them, but then I decided not to, just to see what would happen 
I just think it’s hilarious. They either have vision issues (which I hope is not the case as one of them drove here) jack-o’-melons are a regular thing in their lives, or they thought “there’s weird Imma again, let’s not encourage this madness, maybe one day she might still grow up”. I was still allowed to hold and feed my baby niece so at least they think I’m harmless lol.
I was just discussing this exact thing this morning over text with my oldest friend. We’ve known each other literally since we were babies.
This morning I had my sewing group and I brought cake, since it was my birthday. There’s one lady and she and I, we just don’t vibe.The birthday cake was a good excuse for her to ask my age, so I answered, and she was a bit shocked, she said “Oh, I thought you were much, much younger!”. Not sure whether compliment or insult but from her tone, probably the latter.
When my friend texted me for my birthday I told her, because I know this has happened to her many times as well. We both have younger sisters and in our hometown it was a thing way back when that people didn’t believe we were the older sisters rather than the younger.
It might help that both of us don’t have grey hair yet, but I guess it’s indeed mainly because we can be a bit … well, silly isn’t the right word, but looking for the fun angle of things? I have a serious job in which I sometimes have to give bad news to people, and I’m definitely not behaving silly or childish then. I’s not like I’m incapable of seriousness or something, but in my personal life I like not being beige? A carved melon cracks me up. Tea and cake from nice plates and cups rather than plain white make me happy. I love Halloween and there’s a Wednesday Lego kit displayed on my desk. I am just absolutely incapable of being as put together and proper and adult as my mum and sis. They still haven’t given up the hope that I might grow up one day.
In the mean time, now there’s finally another kid in my family (the first kid born in this century!) at least there’s going to be someone who is going to hopefully appreciate my party planning. I may or may not already have bought Halloween PJ’s to give to her

Time for Halloween!!!
I participated in the Summerween Swap Gallery and I received some great Halloween goodies and patterns. The weather turned last week, we had five heatwaves and severe drought this summer but we’ve been having non-stop rain and thunder for days now. Schools have started again and that’s when people without children, like us, usually take their annual leave. All my coworkers are coming back and I worked through summer and now it’s my turn to take PTO for two weeks. We’re going on a trip tomorrow, for a few days, after that I’m going to be home. I have some DIY planned but mostly I’m planning to organize, clean and decorate for Halloween properly this year. Last year I was really, really busy and working extra hours to organize an event for work in early November, so I didn’t really decorate the way I wanted to. This year there’ll be no excuses.
I’m taking a Halloween cross stitch project with me on the trip, cross stitch is really portable. I also need to dig out the Halloween PJ’s for my niece so I can give it next time I see her! It’s probably on the big side (I bought them last Halloween before she was even born so I picked a generous size just in case) so I need to measure it, maybe I can fold over and hand stitch the sleeves a bit shorter. When she grows the parents can just unpick the stitches and it can grow with her.

Hopefully life will get much less chaotic now after Mr. Bee has had medical treatment. Your family deserves a cosy autumn with plenty of rest and recovery and crafting time.

My first Halloween project this year!
I am digging out some Halloween cross stiches that I have in a WIP basket as well! I also need to refresh my snake wreath and think of how to decorate the fake little evergreen bushes on my patio.

I also want to work up a wreath for Halloween. I have the wreath forms. Just gotta figure out the design elements. Ideally I will use only stuff already in the house…

I got one of five cross stich pieces done for my Halloween bunting! This is a Prairie Schooler pattern, so it was pretty easy and quick. I had to wear my lighted goggles to do the black, and unfortunately, most of the other pieces have lots and lots of black.
I changed up the colors a bit from the original. I used yellow gold for the eyes and feet and added the two orange leaves. In the original, everything was black and the eyes and feet were orange. I just got too bored with all the black!

It looks great with your edits, more interesting than the more monochrome version. It works for both Autumn in general and also Halloween. You could do your bunting with removable bits and switch up the visuals as the season progresses.

I have some hook thingies that I can pin to the backing felt.There’s cardboard inside to stiffen them up so I can also put them in a display by themselves.
@gozer I just used pinking sheers around the felt.

I love seeing and hearing about everyone’s Halloween crafting! I’ve only made one thing so far this year and this month’s crafting is mostly dedicated to a nutcracker gift for my SIL’s early Oct 50th birthday. I do have a TH class kit coming this month. A girlfriend has also ordered it and might be road-tripping here to MT so we can do them together when the class goes live in mid-Oct! Eep!
