Halloween Mystery Candy Jar Round 2!

You may remember the Candy Jar from last Halloween… Well, this one is even bigger. DS1 insisted on a different - and larger - jar this time around. He also did most of the heavy lifting by picking out the candy, counting it, and filling the jar. I got to decorate it, though. I can’t wait to find out who wins it!

I love that all the candy is different sizes! Makes it trickier. Great decoration.
PS. You have to let us know how many pieces it has when the contest is over.

I love how much you elevate something so classic and simple, into a lovely little moment of joy.

Thanks, everyone!

The kids really get excited over these things, so that makes it fun. I had DS1 ask his classmates what kind of candy they like best, and we made sure to include all of them. It’s true that the different types and package sizes make it really hard to estimate how many are in there. I remember doing guess jars when I was younger and it was almost easy to calculate how many Skittles were in a given jar just by knowing the formula for the volume of a cylinder (but, unwrapped candy that has been counted - and touched! - is less than appealing to me, personally). So, I wanted to make it insidiously difficult. Keeps things interesting. We thought about putting a large bag of candy in the center to throw people off even further, but just ended up loading it full to the brim with the fun sized candies. It’s about as much candy as my kids have ever gotten from a good night of Trick or Treating, numbers wise. (Enough to share!)
