Hand made book for testing newly made stamps (blizzard binding)

Here’s a video (unsure of how to post video here other than a link) showing you the book. And a couple of pictures of the pages I stamped with some new stamps I made.

Wow! Those stamps create beautiful patterns!

What an interesting binding technique. Did you follow a tutorial to learn how to do it? It is intriguing with the little triangles holding the pages together.

What a neat little book for the stamps!
I love the castle stampings, they give “Small World” vibes.

Welcome to the friendliest craft corner on the web

That’s an excellent book! It’s it just the triangles holding in the prayers, or are they stitched and they are for extra flair.

The stamps are wonderful too. I love how they are modular, are they lino or wood?

Those stamps are amazing! I really love the castle ones, but it’s so cool how the square stamps create a repeating pattern!

Hi @AIMR ! thank you so much. Yes, there are all kinds of tutorials on youtube for this kidn of binding. It’s really fun! Here’s one of them : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ8s1LZ6v88

hi @Tanath ! Well, funny you should say that , because … the stamps I made for the one green/orange one on the left are directly inspired by Mary Blair shapes from her prints. Good eye! The stamps on the blue one on the right are ones I designed myself.

Thank you @Edel ! Yes, the triangles hold in the pages - not stitched at all. So everything is secure, but also can be removable.

The stamps are engraved out of craft foam (and then glued to a wood base). It’s a type of “tile” called a “truchet tile”, which meets up with itself no matter how you rotate it.

Truchet was a monk in the 1700s who discovered some very simple tiles used in this way (just a tile with a diagonal separation, white on one side and blue on the other). But since then people have designed more complex ones. I thought I would try my hand at it, and I’m pleased with how the design turned out! Thanks again

Ooh, love that binding! Last stamp pic reminds me a bit of Runt (Alex Currie) who you are likely familiar with as a fellow Ontarian (hala from The Hammer!).
The buildings are very interesting. Modular stamps? Really cool work.

Hello Hammer person! I’m in the Royal City, not far from you!

Thanks for the compliment! Someone on facebook said they reminded them of this character from the TV show Disenchantment

haha, well, there is only one other stamp in the book. I made a mermaid set that looks like this, but … i thought I would try to give them little dot eyes, and the paper made the marker bleed, so the poor lady’s mascara’s running pout

The stamps I made for these are:

3 mermaid stamps
2 merdude stamps
bubbles
big sand mound
little sand mound (not used here)
little starfish
clown fish
seahorse
2 plants
treasure chest
shell (not used here)

Oh and here’s a pic of some of the castle / city stamps I made (I laser cut little stacking printers boxes to store them)
