~ COMPLETED ADVANCED STUDIES ~
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Fair Isle Hat
Project Page Link: LC Post
Brief Description: The pattern and yarn for this hat were purchased at the end of May… 2015! I proposed making it an A.S. project in 2019 and finally she is done! March and even April in New England can still be hat wearing weather so I’m really happy it is done now and not, say, in August!

Brief Description: The Advanced Studies Project (ASP- how snakey!) is finally done! I really wanted this done by the end of February and so I spent many hours on it. (Do NOT ask me the state of the house! We even disconnected from the Floo network temporarily to avoid witnesses!)

Class: Detention: Advanced Studies
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Doll Shoe Silicone Molds
Brief Description: Wow, I feel like I have gotten a lot more fails than success with my Advanced Study to become a muggle doll shoe apprentice. I decided to start with polymer clay for my first material. The first shoes I made were large and clunky. They slipped right off a standard Barbie, and they were slightly too narrow for my curvy Barbie-which broke the polymer strap. Attempt #2 they technically fit-but they still feel clunky for a Barbie scale shoe. I decided to try making a silicone mold for the shoe soles and heel. I saw numerous videos and blogs about mixing silicone cauling with cornstarch to create a mold for buttons. After trying it I have found it is too hard to get out a shoe with a heel from the mold. It might work for something flat-it does hold detail-but anything not flat I do not reccomend the caulk mold. Next I purchased some liquid silicone to try. It has been a lot of trial and error, but I do see hope with the liquid silicone. I tried a wedge shoe sole and a high heel shoe. The wedge mold was successful. The high heel mold ended up with a tiny hole that was enough to ruin it.

Wow, @plaidpineapple, that’s a HUGE tiny project! It’s amazing that you can do this. I’m looking forward to seeing updates as they come! The trial and error phases can be disheartening, but look at all you’ve learned about the crafting of them this way. That’s pretty neat!

Thanks @AIMR ! I dod not make the pompom. I’ve had a pack of pink, blue and white ones in my stash for some time and am finally using them!
@Antbee that hat is so incredibly beautiful!

Class or Challenge Title: Iron Chef - Green
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Glowing Green Hummus
Brief Description: I liked the sound of the green hummus recipe Abbeeroad mentioned in her Iron Chef prompt, and I had all the ingredients on hand. (Plus the cilantro needed to be used up soon.) It’s quite tasty, but it made a TON of hummus! Like 3 cups full! Good thing my husband also likes cilantro & lime, and we have a ton of chips in the house to use it with.

Oh wow. I might have to make that hummus, too! We are all huge fans of lime and cilantro here.

Challenge: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes #3 Love potion
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Cute, round MSD hat
Project Description: I made the one for #8 first, and it has a fun, pointier top, but I really wanted a rounder one, so I tweaked my pattern a bit and got what I wanted. If it’s not obvious, I LOVE creating tiny hats lately, lol!

Challenge: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes #4 Otter’s Fizzy Orange Drink
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Purple Twist Headband
Project Description: When I saw Abbeeroad’s headband, I had to make one, too!

Challenge: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes #8
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Pointy Li’l Hat
Project Description: Nico needed a hat to go with his sweater, so I made him a cute wee hat. It might be hard to tell, but the top of this one is longer and pointier than the one I made later for #3.

Your tiny hats are so cute!

A few years ago I joined the million little hats challenge and sent in over 23 tiny hats. They are a lot of fun. The free patterns are so cute but some of the hats are works of art! I bet you could size them for your dolls!

Amazing little hats

Class or Challenge Title: Arithmancy
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: ‘Rail Fence’ Style Clover Block
Brief Description: I was inspired by this Clover Block, but it was too small for the pile of 12" blocks I’m working on, so I decided to play with sizing it up. I started with the plan to use 2.5" strips, since I have so many of them precut already. The entire block takes just 12 2.5"x6.5" green scraps, and 12 2.5" squares of background fabric, and is done with the Snowball Method. Overall it’s very much like a Rail Fence block, but with snowball corners. It fits the prompt because I used seven different fabrics in it.

Class or Challenge Title:
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Lucky Clover Block
Brief Description: I wasn’t thrilled with my clover block above, so I decided to keep playing around with alternate patterns. I found one on McCalls, that required 2 greens. I’ve had the darker green in my stash for ages, and I just don’t like it. I should like it; it’s a deep rich color, has some interesting texture, and is good quality. But somehow every time I try to use it in something, I hate how it looks and take it out. So it’s been lingering in my scrap bins for a decade. I finally found a way to turn this lousy scrap into something great!
