Hats, Hats, and More Hats Along

I know a lot of us make hats…lots of hats!

I enjoy making hats but recently got lost in Pinterest because there are just so many hats available to make.

I thought we should have a place to share patterns, give our opinions or notes on patterns, and maybe even make the same hat or have monthly hat making projects.

I would like to use this first post to link any patterns and to link your separate posts of your hat projects. If you don’t want to make a separate post, you can just post here.

Anybody else?

Links to hat patterns:
To make things easier, looks like we are posting links to patterns along with our pics and post.
Same thing with links to hats that might have been posted separately in the completed projects section of the fiber category. Yay…less time keeping up with the thread and more time knitting/crocheting hats!

Ooo…I really like that last hat! What a great idea to get this started. There are definitely a lot of prolific hat makers here.

Would you be ok if I moved this to Shenanigans with the other craftalongs?

I love that first hat. The colors are fantastic.

You and @jellybean were the first people I thought of when this went up!

Same! I know those two are hat people, but surely we have others and those who would love to make hats with us!

I swear I could make a hat a day and never run out of patterns to try, but I need more focus not to get overwhelmed! @jellybean and @J-squared have been my inspiration!

I try not to have too many different projects going at one time. Just complete something before starting something else. It’s a challenge though because I get distracted easily. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I tend to have at least one project in every category of craft I love to do. I get bored too easily, but when I do pick up something, I get it done quickly. I can usually get a hat done in a day.

I usually have a hat, socks, and some sort of shawl or blanket in various stages at all times.

I have a file of all my patterns and prioritize which ones I want to complete sooner than later. I have favorites that I do over and over, but I am also obsessed with doing different patterns.

Here is a pattern that I did for the July DeStash-along. Not my favorite pattern in terms of clarity, but I like the completed look. I make some modifications in order to knit in the round and to make the crown area flow better in my mind.

And pics of ones I have made:

What a beautiful stitch!

I have several hats to post. My goal is to have 25 hats to send to my former knitting guild in NC. They are in need of men’s hats.

I know you can do it. :grinning:

I had some random tweed yarn and just played around to use up the yarns. These will go to the men’s transition home in Harrisburg, PA.

All other hats will be sent to my previous knitting group in Wilmington, NC. They are still sending hats to Asheville to help those affected by the hurricane over a year ago.

12 hats so far…one given to a friend, the rest for charity. So I need another 14 if I am going to reach my goal of 25 to donate! Yikes!

My August hat for the DeStash-along:

Pattern: Ravelry: Diagonal Stitch Pompom Hat pattern by Caron Design Team

It says it’s no longer available online, so if anyone wants a copy I can scan and send to you. It was free so ok to pass along.

This hat was a lot of fun to make. I liked how everything comes together at the end when you loop all the loops together to make a braid! Very interesting!

I do recommend a spongier yarn as the braids make the fit a bit snug. I used Expression Arts Pearlescent Worsted in colorway “A Charm of Finches” (no longer available, but there are some pretty gorgeous other yarns and colors!).

I am aiming for 25. I really want to make more men hats to send to a charity.

I started feeling overwhelmed by the number of patterns that I had on my computer so I decided to go through them and decide which ones I would really want to make and which ones needed to get dumped.

I started with the ones I paid for. This one is from Holland Designs and is called Knit Look C2C Slouch Hat.

It really is a nice texture and pretty easy to crochet. What I didn’t like is that there is a lot of sewing to shape the hat. It is also very heavy and uses almost a full skein of yarn.

I wanted a red hat, so I picked out something I had in my stash. I should have read the label because the yarn is feltable wool, which means I am going to have to gently hand wash it in order not to felt/shrink it! Ugh!

I am working on another red hat, but it will be a knit out of washable wool.

My brother asked if he could have some of the hats I have made to give to people he works with at his trucking job. Apparently, a lot of people are feeling the financial pinch this year so he is trying to help out if he can. I am happy for him to have them and now it gives me even more incentive to knit a few more men’s hats!
