Hidden Heart Ornament and Heart Cards

I save tiny bits of fabric and thread from most of my other sewing and needlework projects. When my basket gets full, I grab some heat bond or wash away stabilizer and make more “fabric”. Usually, I don’t get too large of a piece, so I just throw the fabric into another basket for later use.

I decided that this is the time of year to make some ornaments so I pulled out a blue piece and was able to make three star ornaments. In the middle of the star, I sewed in a heart shape that I cut out of felt scraps. The star is so busy, so the heart is hard to see, which is why I call it a hidden heart. The star is further embellished with stitching and beads and then backed with felt.

I had enough to make three cards as well. Just a simple watercolor background with the hearts machine stitched onto it. These will be sent out as happy mail to anyone who might need a little love.

Thanks for looking!

I didn’t realize how finely I had chopped up the scraps until I cut into the new “fabric” and a lot of pieces started falling off!

I had to so more stitching, both by machine and hand, in order to wrangle the tiny pieces. Next time, I will not get so chop happy!
