Hiking pants to skirt, why not?

I’ve been remaking clothes all spring and summer. One, because I want my favorites to fit better, and two, I like thrift shopping and finding fun patterns and colors that I can’t find in the local, now not so local, stores. Joann’s is gone, Michaels is a joke, and the quilt shop closed several years ago. I have to drive 45+ miles to get to any store that has an OK selection. And prices are well, pricey. Ordering online is always chancy, color and quality-wise.
And I’ve gravitated to skirts and undershorts for summer wear. I’m just more comfortable. We are leaving soon on a camping trip, and I am taking my lightest, most camping-worthy skirts. I mean, who knows what damage I will do out there in the woods?
These hiking pants are old. I really don’t know when I bought them, but it was when all pants zippers were 4 inches long, allowing your belly to hang out there in the wind. Who thought that was a good idea? I’ve also had to add elastic in the back to make the waist fit.
So I unzipped the legs, ripped leg zippers and seams, sewed up the front seam (it was baggy enough to not need the wonky crotch overlap. Then added a godet to the back and hemmed it with self-made bias tape to keep as much length as possible. The sides still don’t fall flat easily; they are also a bit wonky, but the skirt is so light and comfy.
Now, back to packing for a 10-day camping trip.

Looks camp ready! I’m always amazed by sewists who can transform garments like that. Nice job!

That was an almost seamless remake! It looks like it was always a skirt!

Wow! It sounds like you put a lot of time and effort into these. I’m so impressed with the final outcome. Looking at the pants vs skirt version has me wondering how you performed such magic - I know you explained it, but still, it seems like magic to me. I hope you have fun on your camping trip!
