In areas that wouldn’t support a proper shelf - how about a “plate rail” and then you’d “display” books across the plate rail??
It’d only be 1 book deep, but it would be very decorative depending on the books you choose!
That “Old farm” is gorgeous!!
My oldest nieces had a purple bedroom when they were little. It was very much not in style at the time and they loved it!! It’s the studio for one of my nieces now. I don’t know if it is still purple, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is!!
That is gorgeous, tho I’m a little concerned about that one beam that appears to be resting on a brick in the middle of the hallway.
Re:shelving, I have a bad habit of just kind of squishing in floating shelves anywhere there’s a little room for them, though I would definitely be eyeing that window as a place to build out enough cabinet in front of it that I could sit on the window ledge.
I’m pretty sure the beam is now completely decorative! The first thing they typically do in these renovations is adapt the construction so the beams are no longer load bearing. Those old farm conversions, typically the front of the housebarn (where people lived) was built in brick and had two floors (living area downstairs, sleeping upstairs) but the barn part typically had a timber frame and loam walls, and no second floor. When the old housebarns were converted, people typically put in a second floor in the barn area, and had to make changes to the construction.
We’ve been thinking about our plans for the near future and it looks like the first things we’re going to do are finishing the wallpaper in the living room (we still have a few odd corners that aren’t done yet) , prime and paint the walls and ceiling in the downstairs toilet, and paint walls and ceiling in the utility room. We’ve already got everything we need for it, except for the time.
I’m still thinking (and will be for a while) about the shelving for my craft room. I like the idea of floating shelves, those look really pretty! Are yours sturdy enough for heavy books? I’ve only seen people put picture frames and the like on them. The window is actually pretty high up (chest height) so it’s a bit too high to sit on the window ledge. But there are a ton of electric outlets there because it’s an ideal place for sewing.
It sure looks really, really better! They did such a great job copying the posts too, that’s all done by hand. I’m looking forward to seeing it completed tonight.
Next is finishing the back room & porch, then replacing the kitchen back splash. We’re picking out tiles this week, I want a lovely mossy green or pretty blue.
The posts were my absolute favourite part of it, they make the steps look really fancy.
I went ahead and got another little Kallax from Ikea (1x2 cubby). I already have a Kallax wall in my craft room and I measured out there was space for a small extra one. It’s an odd space, so my “wall” is actually several different shapes of Kallax piled on top of each other.
I hope to get the last books from our storage unit tomorrow and hopefully sometime this month we’ll finally put up the curtains everywhere.
Well, now it’s how we get outside
There’s a powder room to the left, a very large plant, & Rob’s work-from-home desk is usually to the right. It’s not very big & directly off the diningroom. It’s more of a pass-thru space than an actual room.
