Home decor and renovation craftalong

Thought I would add a bit of fun to my craft room…and, a nice reminder of my previous beach living…

Wow, those look great!!! Did you buy all of these?? I can’t figure out which ones I love more, the hummingbirds or these.

One reason why I made my own is couldn’t find fun ready made ones, just boring beige and grey stuff. If these kind of prints had been available here I wouldn’t have had to make them myself!

I bought them on Amazon. They can digitally print just about any design now. It was very difficult to choose! I priced fabric and it was going to cost me so much more to make, plus, these are lined in white (which helps with light, insulates and meets the neighborhood requirement). I am thinking of getting the seahorse design for my closet since I hate the doors.

Wow, your curtain choices are fabulous!!

Really bold for me…all my other homes have had solid or nearly solid curtains or plain white. I just decided to go for it! ha

The best thing about curtains is that when you get tired of them, you can replace them in 10 minutes. Almost everything else (paint, wallpaper, floor, furniture) is a hassle but textiles are easy to change and can completely change the look of a room. You could even change them seasonally if you wanted to.

Whoa, those octopus curtains are brave & paying off! Love the vibe.

Indeed. And it seems all of the affordable ready-made draperies are the grommet style which just doesn’t fit our tastes. And they tend to be shorter than I like, too. I have slowly acquired the fabric and lining for new drapes for the 3 windows in our living/dining rooms by taking advantage of some sales. I still haven’t found enough wood rings at a thrift store or garage sale or a price I liked online. I can’t find them in stores here at all. Would love to have them done and up by next spring, so perhaps I’ll bite the bullet on the rings after the new year.

Your ready-mades are so fun and cheerful!

I used to have tons of those wooden rings for macrame projects! What size do you need? I will keep a look out!

You’re so kind! The kind with the little metal loop for attaching to hooks is what I’m looking for, so maybe not the same as for macrame? Probably about 40-50.

I sometimes see those on donated curtains. The curtains are pretty cheap but I know the hoops are not! I can definitely see that those are your style! Nice!

Of course, this discussion got me curious to look again online and I found a few of interest to me at prices that didn’t feel too exorbitant! Either they have changed or I have changed. Anyway… pinned for when the time comes!

Y’all, I finished my little console/sideboard thingie for TheMisterT’s Grill Zone on the new deck! We still don’t have railing, but I am told it could be delivered next Thursday. WOO!

Also, today I did a little staining of part of the exterior of the house and will do a bit more tomorrow. Before the railing arrives I want to touch up the green paint on that window trim, make some more progress with the deconstruction of the old deck, and start on a dining table for out there, too. EEP!

Thanks! I think he might test it out over the weekend, so he’ll put the functionality to the test!

We live in a 1950s cape with very small closets. These houses were built after WWII with 4 rooms down, kitchen, living, and 2 bedrooms. Currently the two bedrooms are a dining room and a craft room. The upstairs were left unfinished, but ours was built out with two bedrooms and a half bath. Again closets are limited. One bedroom has no closet and ours has two tiny closets and one awkward one outside next to the stairs.
We just purchased two dressers to build into the knee walls. Wish us luck.
Oh and I’ll post later on the finished air conditioner cubby.
Current dressers, they need some love and dismantling.

Bedroom wall. My great grandpa’s highboy will be moved to another room. And the hole in the left wall is the unfinished air conditioner hiddy cubby. 3/4 inch 50+ year old plywood can fight back. It will be framed out and hide all the wonky cuts.

It’s an ambitious project but if anyone can do it, you can! I love that you are using those two dressers and modifying them…so suited for your home!

I’m sure this will look really nice when it’s done! And it fits the style of the house so well.

We are finishing up the last bits of the bedroom, then moving on to my room, finally! We’ve already bought the paint. I can’t wait for my room to be done.

One of my oldest friends visited us this weekend (we’ve known each other since we were 8!). She’s such a kind person, when she walked around she did her best to not see the mess and she said “I’m so happy for you guys that your house reflects who you are so well” , and she meant it. She’s a super neat freak and loves neutrals, but she’s just truly happy for us, even though I know she secretly wanted to run and hide by the time we ended up in the bedroom.

Oooo! It’s so satisfying when someone takes advantage of that space behind an attic knee wall for storage in this manner! It’s extra cool that you’ve rescued older pieces for this project. Saving furniture and space! WOO!
