Agree–your house is how YOU want it. You can follow trends or not, make your own style, etc. For me, function comes first but I do obsess with small details more than I should. However, I really don’t notice that much in other people’s homes…I guess because I am more interested in the company…and hopefully, that is how people feel when they come to see me.

Same for the most part. I like to see people’s decorations and collections on display, but I don’t really consider how it relates to anything other than being interesting to me or who they are/what they love.

We changed our outlets so they really stand out and honestly, it’s one of our favourite things in the house. They make me happy every day (they’re black and round) .

I think that is an awesome style statement to make functional things stand out.

I have ten outlets in my bedroom and two more in the closet and two in the bath…that would be too many circles to be a feature…I bet they look just right in your home…more modern!

Cool! We have one landline phone jack that is round and vintage-y looking and I copper leafed it. It’s one of just a few that we’ve left in the house and no one sees it since it’s in the main bedroom, but I will probably keep it just the way it is even when I finally get around to repainting in there.

Ooo! They sound awesome and I agree, just your style!

I’ve painted a lot of outlet covers over the years. For this house some look like brick, some like wood. Most of the outlets near the floor are covered outlets. One in my bathroom is a painting of a cat - so looks like art rather than a light switch. The only ones that are a solid paint color are those in the boys’ bathroom. It’s the only room which is painted.

I have a light switch decoupaged in sheet music in the music room, which used to hold all the drums, shakers, guitars and cigarbox ukes.

Well the stuffies are mostly contained again.

The toy and clothing donation process has been a breeze. I’ve been surprised and impressed. It’s still a work in progress but I can see my living room again, lol.

I’ve been sanding, sanding, sanding while my wife is cutting down the dressers and fixing things.

But we finished the air conditioner cubby. I think I will paint it the same color as the walls so it blends in more. It’s just primed now. I wonder what future owners will think? What we really need to do is remove the barely useful closets, but just don’t have the oomph to tackle that right now.

I’m taking the closet doors and switching out the upper louvers for caning and new handles. And then the scallops over the window seat must go!

Really clever storage spot! I had the painters paint the access panels to the plumbing in the bathrooms the same color as the walls. They really do blend in. I like the idea of having some sort of handle or knob to at least make them seem “on purpose” and also easier to remove when needed. Too bad they are so low or else I would put a picture in the “frames”.

Can’t wait to see the door makeover. I have similar closet doors and they are just “bleh”. Now you have me thinking what I can do to my doors to make them more my style. So cool that you have a window seat!

If I was the future owner I would be so glad that the previous owners installed all these smart storage solutions! This way you can have a/c without having an ugly thing in the room 365 days a year.

I think your room will look really nice when you’re done. I also like the idea of changing the doors a bit without replacing them. We have solid 1940s wood panelled doors in our house and our neighbour (who has the same doors) simply cut out the panels and added glass to them. It looks like a different door at a fraction of the price.

@marionberries That A/C spot is so clever! And I love the idea of caning in a door; can’t wait to see it! My aesthetic is anti-louver if it isn’t necessary for ventilation and luckily (for me) got to remove the one louvered door in our house earlier this year. We may need something ventilated there in the future (if we’re able to an add a propane, on-demand water heater, so I am going to keep in mind this caning idea!

@Abbeeroad The girls’ room is really coming together! Are they super excited?
It’s so great that they’re not fighting the donating, too.

I have been working on adding blocking to the deck frame where the posts for the railing system will go. I have never gotten good at “toenailing” at all and it’s a big PITA so far. Slow going and unpleasant at best and I suspect I will have to "fine tune’ it along the way. But I am almost “done” so I can move on to installing the posts which has me pretty nervous since I’ll be drilling holes in the deck boards. EEK! The air quality has been quite bad with the nearby wildfire + other fires and it’s been hot, so I have not been spending more than a couple of hours working on it at a time. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow and the next day (Weds and Thurs), so I do want to get a good chunk accomplished today, maybe even all the way up to the cable installation which I can’t do yet anyway. The tool kit for that was not included in my order so they had to order another one which is due “probably Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Anyway, is it coming through how much I am not enjoying this? :grimacing:
It’ll be worth it.

For sure. Eyes on the prize, right? :grimacing:

They have been loving the new spaces. Their room is so uncluttered with the toys and stuffies in a separate spot; it’s wonderful! We are still working our way through the toys (mostly fidgets, like, how did we get so many?!), but we’re getting there. Everyone is excited about the change.

Kids toys breed, just like craft supplies and the number of tools you bring out for any project.

Le sigh. The railing part of this deck project is going to be a much bigger undertaking than I suspected. I’m currently waiting to hear back from the manufacturer about a measurement for attaching some clips… which require me to drill 2 self-tapping screws/each into some rather thick metal in 10 out of 18 of the posts. The other 8 posts are thinner metal, but will require 4 self-tapping screws/each. We’re entering a couple of rainy days here, so I cleared space to set up a work station in the shop and have just accepted that I might spend hours in there attaching clip after clip. I made this to show the manufacturer the measurement I am looking for. They give that measurement as the very first step for a more standard installation, but nowhere for the style we’re going with.

My head is spinning…it looks way complicated but I am sure you will figure it out and do a great job!

I’m getting there, but can’t do my next step until they give that measurement.
