It fits snuggly in the cube and is the perfect size for my needs. You do lose about 1 1/2" of total vertical space because of the shelfs but it more than makes up for it by subdividing the cube.
I think mine is very practical, but it would be better if your Kallax has a backing, like @photojenn 's. Mine doesn’t, it’s pushed against a wall but occasionally paper falls out on the other side. There’s only a very small very gap between the cabinet and the wall but it’s big enough for paper.
I wonder if I could just back the insert to keep things from falling behind…
That was my original plan, and I think it would work. The only reason I ended up backing the entire shelf because it is by the door.
Ok moving one or two things into the studio just to check kind of avalanched I will wheel the carts, drawers, and easel out of the way whenever they do install the window. I realized I only have space for one of my easels to fit comfortably, which is a bummer but honestly not a problem at all. As it is currently I can open up all drawers, get to all shelves, and everything without feeling cramped. I’m SO happy with how it’s coming along!!
What a wonderful workspace!
Wow, it looks fantastic!!
This looks like a very inviting art space!
The mice situation is really getting out of hand! In a few days, it seems that instead of one tunnel, they’ve now dug at least three tunnels into our pantry, really big ones. The mice mesh we ordered arrived today, we discovered the new tunnels when we wanted to apply that. Tomorrow we’re first going to fill up these holes with cement, then we’ll add the mesh on top of that.
Luckily I haven’t ever had to deal with mice so I don’t have any suggestions. I really hope the mesh works well and you’re able to find all their entry points!
Those little guys make such big messes!
I found a plant based product that is sold for truckers and camper/caravan owners to help keep the mice out of stored vehicles. Like little sachets of pungent herbs (pine mostly from the smell of it.) I tossed one behind the stove where they’d been accessing the kitchen and one under the kitchen sink. Maybe it will work. I have been spraying peppermint oil spray everywhere but it seems these bad boys like it minty fresh.
I love it!!!
I get mice in my infrequently driven 20 year old car. They get into the cabin air filter behind the glove box and snuggle down. Nothing like a blast of mice smell when you turn up the heater.
The glove box is a pain to remove and replace so the last time I changed the filter I added a screen over the air intake and sprinkled peppermint on the filter. A bit minty strong for a while, but kept the crtters out.
Every opening we can find in the house is filled with steel wool. And the cats alert us by staring longingly under the fridge or stove when one does get in. We just use regular traps.
We get chipmunks in the air filters! They don’t stink it up, at least.
My upstairs neighbor is struggling with a persistent mouse issue so I’m making her some sachets with the used pine litter from my cat box, at her request. Probably wins the prize for the strangest craft project I’ve ever undertaken.
That’s fabulous. It’s good to be a well-rounded crafter haha
Hope that works!!
It’s been 20 hours since we last heard or saw a mouse, so fingers crossed they’re gone. We filled up all the holes with steel wool, we’ll add mesh and mortar later this weekend. Last night we had a confused mouse running up and down in the kitchen, then we realized he might be trapped because we blocked his way out. He jumped into the trash, so I picked up the bag and put it outside. I hope he’s now telling his mice friends to stay away from here!
Yesterday I got the actual hand rail part of the the shebang installed on the 2nd side and strung the cables!
Today I wrapped it up! But I didn’t get a shot, so I’ll share that later. WOO!
Woohoo!!
Ooooh I’m so happy for you you’re finally done!! After all these months of hard work. I know you didn’t really enjoy doing it. But you did it and you’ve really improved your living space.
