Currently looking like rain on Monday (scheduled window install date) but the rest of the week looks clear so we should definitely have a new window next week!
Some of the window treatments have started to arrive and I got tracking numbers for the other 2 so hopefully they’ll be here next week as well.
Sooooo clooooose! When I saw that you had added to this topic, I clicked with the hopes of seeing the new window (I can’t remember my own dates, even). Excited for the time I do click through to a pic of your window and treatments.
We got the curtain rod and new roman shade installed today. They’ll take down the shade when they do the window and it seemed easier to just install it today instead of trying to do it mid-week.
The window company confirmed install for tomorrow! Eep! And apparently the curtains that shipped from Vietnam on Friday (2 days ago) are going to be delivered tomorrow already! Things are happening!
The new windows have been installed . We can’t touch them for a few hours so the caulking inside can cure. The curtains also arrived and the package is way heavier than expected (the box says 22kg) so hopefully the curtain rods can handle it . The drywall anchors are rated for 50lb each and there’s 2/bracket so the brackets themselves should be fine.
It involved some cursing, cutting, and sawing off screws and drywall anchors but I have curtains! I’m going to need to hem the sides at some point (the curtains they sent were twice as wide as this, so this is one panel cut in half) but I’m calling the curtains good enough for tonight so we can move on to the bookshelves.
Congratulations on getting this last piece of contractor work complete! You’re going to be painting away in there before you know it!

Trying to get more unpacking and rooms done so that I can feel like I am home in my new house!
Had to wait for delivery of another bookcase so I could finish unpacking books! We had a built in bookcase for Jim’s books in our old house hence the need for another one here. I still have a few boxes to go, but most are cookbooks that will go elsewhere or crafting books that will go into my craft room.
Today, I will hang pictures and put up the curtains. Still have to shop for more furniture, but at least I have a place to relax and read!
Oh, and had fun early this morning watching the leaf sucker truck removing our leaves to take to the composting place. This is a free service provided by our township (well, we pay taxes, so not really “free”…). I am such a dork that I actually made a video of it…so cool to watch!
@photojenn, that space is going to be awesome to work in!
Well, I think I’ve about exhausted the appliances to be replaced for a while. Just had a new water heater installed this morning. To be fair, the old one was 31 years old.

I hate that everything seems to break down all at once! Our water heater is over 20 years old (if the label on it is correct). Our handyman wants to replace it now with a more efficient one, but the home warranty service won’t pay for it until it actually breaks down…ugh…with my luck, it will be in the middle of a shower or the rinse cycle of the washing machine!
I really hate the maintenance part of owning a home!
You can always run a maintenance check on it if it’s been a while…have it drained, replace the anode… Get some peace of mind that you’re extending the function by a little bit, at least.
But, yes, the last three weeks…first I get a screw in one of my brand new tires, then it was the well pump, now the water heater. Got the new pump and water heater, getting that tire fixed this afternoon, and tomorrow they’re collecting water samples to make sure the well shock is cleared out and was effective. I should have every related issue cleared up by Friday.
The drain valve hadn’t been opened in a long time, so there was a ton of sediment that wouldn’t drain out. Luckily my DH stuck around long enough to help them get the old water heater out of the basement.
