Major Closet Makeover

I have a small 3’ wide by just under 7’ deep with a sloping ceiling at the back. I call it my scrapwood closet because former diyers used a variety of materials to hack it together. It had three rods across the width, one lower at the back, and only the front one was accesible. I put in two small shelving units on one side, but again, they were hard to access. And the budget to make over was small…very small.
After

Before

  • I removed all wood shelf and rod supports, patched and scraped paint, and painted with leftover paint. All paint used was leftovers.
  • Reused and painted two shelves, one original and one from another room
  • The scalloped shelf was repurposed and painted from the wood valance above the window seat in the bedroom
  • Bankers boxes are covered with an old tablecloth
  • The rod was salvaged from the original closet
  • DIYed a drum light cover from embroidery hoops, rice paper, and burlap. The light is LED and flat.
  • I purchased shelf brackets, rod hangers, and a rug

I love it! And I can walk in and access everything. It is still tight, but so much better.

Looks not only more functional but pretty as well! You really thought out how you use the space and used every inch of it! I love that you repurposed that scallop shelf…and the light fixture is really cool!

And the rug is so welcome on cold days. The closet isn’t heated and can be a bit chilly.

I just noticed I had mistyped the width. 3 feet wide instead of 6. Oh how I wish for six. Post is corrected now.
