Home decor and renovation craftalong

My DH, who has lived in this house his whole life, says he doesn’t even recognize the kids’ rooms. And, at one point, each of those rooms was his bedroom. But, yes, don’t underestimate a ‘facelift.’

It looks amazing!!! I hope my floor turns out half as stunning. I can believe your husband doesn’t recognize his own house anymore. You’ve done so much work.

We’re going to start laying the floor in my craft room tomorrow. I’ve unpacked and played around with the wood for a little bit today and I think we can do it! I hope I’m not too optimistic about my DIY skills

I’m sure you’ll do fine. You’re crafty. We’re blessed to live in age of information. I find that if you get stuck, someone somewhere has blogged or made a video about exactly the same thing.

We’re doing well enough, I guess. We spent the entire day putting in less than 25% of the floor today and spent most of the day doing it, but I think we’ve figured all the issues out now. I wanted to continue but Mr. Imma is not a crafter and less patient and decided to call it a day. I do think we’ll be done in a couple of hours tomorrow.

The tongue and groove system is easy to figure out, but I hadn’t considered that wood floor boards are way heavier than simple laminate, so it really is a workout. We’d never used our jigsaw to cut boards this heavy, we had to go to the hardware store to get different saw blades and we tried out all the settings on the jigsaw. We’ve figured it out now but it took some time. You’re right, we used google a lot to figure out how to best cut these boards.

Side question: are we crafters because we’re patient enough to rip out a seam 5 times before we get the sleeve in right, or are we patient because we’ve learned through crafting that sometimes things don’t work out until the 7th attempt?

Ahh, the age old question…

I choose to believe we are a special kind of stubborn.

I think that is closer to the truth, for me, at least. Because, I am not at all patient, just persistent.

I am not at all patient, so I am on team persistent and determined. Also, a bit obsessed with conquering a challenge. I am no longer a perfection, so that is good…more things get done, even if they are a bit wonky first try!

My husband’s drum room was completed yesterday, so he is anxious to set up his new drum set and get back into practicing. There were two walls that they did not paint as it was not part of the job project, so instead of waiting to see if the painter could do it Monday, I am doing it. I don’t have to use a ladder but getting up off the floor has been a challenge, but I am doing it!

Hopefully, I will finish tonight so he can lay down his rugs and sound proof panels. I need him to feel like he is moving closer to his normal routine. For his mental health as well as mine!

Stubbornly persistent club here.
I did not organize the crafting pile, opting for the brainless pantry job instead. I can’t handle the emotional thinkyness of my stuff for some reason, not even stubborn is pushing me through

Wow. What a difference, & so gorgeous & glossy rich.

I think we’ve all known crafters who don’t care if the seam is right and don’t care to rip it out even once. Some of us are determined or patient (or both), though!

Yesterday I drilled 488 holes into boards! They will be peg holes for shelf supports. I did some other stuff, too.

I admire your patience! Drill press with some sort of jig?

Jig! It’s a cool little set up, but only 13 holes long (but 2 wide). I wanted to get one that would work for more than floor-to-ceiling projects! I wore down two batteries in the process, though.

I hope the painting went fine! Sometimes the easiest way is to just do something yourself. If you don’t need to use a ladder, I guess it’s safe to do it yourself. It’s a good workout! I hope your muscles don’t ache too much.

My muscles are aching but the floor is almost done! We just need to make a few cuts that we don’t have the right equipment for, but a friend has a carpentry workshop so we’re asking him.

Our new place came with some tools, I don’t know even what they are called. I took a 4 week intro to construction class a few years ago & am more toolie than Rob but still mostly just intimidated. I’m curious & willing but beyond the basics I do not know what I am doing. Still, we have a lot to work on in this space.

We are having a disagreement about what to do with these weird room-within-a-room things.

I want them all gone asap. The barn doors, ugh. It’s like shabby-chic, super dated. I mean, if they were really functional I wouldn’t mind how they look but no barn door anywhere ever kept a determined dog out, not ever, lol.

That stuff you gave away the other week, and this as well… it looks like someone spent a lot of time carefully making it, but it also feels really like pinterest circa 2010? Is there a purpose for the rooms-in-a-room? I like lots of little rooms but if all the rooms are too small to be functional they need to get out. I’m not a fan of barn doors either - my mother has them, they never stay closed. Your dog is quite big I think so I’m not sure any other door would keep him inside though. We have a four-legged friend who stays over frequently and he can open any unlocked door.
