How To Hang Curtains In a School Bus

Someone mentioned maybe you all might be interested in seeing the inside of my school bus home, so I am going to start showing off the things I’ve made to make living in a school bus more comfortable.

Last year when we started living in the school bus full time, I realized that the window tinting on the back windows wasn’t dark enough. So, then I had to figure out how to hang curtains in a metal walled home.

So, I bought magnets and made regular curtains, but slid the magnets into the top casing and sewed them in place. Most of the curtains are muslin:

But the two small back windows have these batik curtains:

It’s my absolute favorite batik and I only had enough left for those curtains and a matching pillow for the bench seat in the main living area:

(Ignore the muddy footprint there, it’s difficult to keep this place clean some days.)

The magnets I bought in bulk from Amazon and they aren’t very strong. I need to either add more to the bigger curtains or get stronger ones. But, I felt quite brilliant when I figured out to use magnets!

Thats so cool! How many live in the bus with you? My ex-husband and his new wife converted a van and traveled around the country in it. It is really cool, complete with a bathroom and shower.
PS. My ex and I are still good friends (love his new wife so much!) and its so funny when people ask what he is up to and I say, “He’s living in a van now.” Hahaha! They don’t get it. That van is amazing.
I’d love to se more of your home! The batik is gorgeous and the magnet idea is clever!

It’s just my husband and I, our cat and our small dog. The bus isn’t full size and I can’t imagine having another human in here… My kids are now adults and they were becoming a bit much to live in a two bedroom condo with a few years ago. :joy:

I talked to a crafty friend of mine just now about your curtains. She has an RV and she said she used a magnetic tape for the same issue. It has a sticky side to adhere to your fabric, or in her case, a light blocking product called Reflectix.

Lovely solution to cover the windows! That batik is gorgeous…and I am sure that the curtain and pillow will find a place in your new home as well.

I had a metal door that I used a special rod that had super strong magnets. They didn’t hold a lot of weight, though. I bet a few more magnets will do the trick!

I have a roll of magnetic tape and I never even thought to try it with fabric.
