How would you mend this woven fabric?

This is my Maya Wrap baby sling that is over 25 years old. My older daughter really wants to use this with my grandson and doesn’t mind me patching these holes but I am wondering if there’s something better I can do to fix them.

I’d go right over the existing weave with another thread, visible or invisible with matching colours. Maybe use a blunt needle so you’re not splitting the threads.
Knot & weave in the start & end threads, using a long enough one that can go back & forth a few times for less ends to knot.

I’m so looking forward to seeing your mend!

I’d do what Magpie said and weave in threads to match. I do one thread at a time and overlap the threads by at least an inch (maybe a little more in this case because of the surface area) on either side. You shouldn’t need to knot anything as the weave itself should hold the threads secure - when weaving or fixing skipped stitches we never knot anything, just lay in the new thread with overlap on either side.

I forgot to ask, do you think the yarn is cotton? Do you have any to match? If not I have a ridiculous amount of weaving cotton and I’d be happy to send you some lengths in similar colors (and hopefully weights but it’s hard for me to tell the yarn weight in the pic).

It is cotton. I zoomed waaay in. I might have a black cotton that’ll work but I need to check. When I get to work today I’ll take another pic that shows thread size better. Thank you for the advice!
