Ideas on how to display, bind, etc. Embroidered fabric pages

A few years ago, I decided on a slow stitch project that involved using charm squares and various other fabrics to make fabric book pages. I decided I wanted to do embroidery stitches so I could have a reference for doing other projects.

Some of you might remember these pages…they are double sided and fairly thick with batting inside. 5x5 size. I am doing 50 different stitches, so there will be a total of 25 “pages”.

Obviously, I can’t do a regular fabric book…it would be 16 inches tall!

Any ideas? Special binding technique to be able to see both sides? Should I group them four to a “page”? I guess I could just make some sort of basket for them and sort through (realistically, I am probably just going to go to YouTube to look up the stitch),

Just thought I would throw it out here as I am working on finishing some WIPS that have been lingering way too long under my table.

Could you hinge two pages together (e.g., with a strip of fabric) and then bind those into signatures? I guess 25 of those might become quite bulky, though.

That was the original plan, and I even talked about doing an accordion style book, but the thickness is an issue. I suppose I could do 5 books with 5 pages in each…that might be the best solution so I don’t overthink it.

I suppose you could make each page two blocks stacked vertically and then hinge them. That would ~halve the bulk, although your book would also be 10 inches high.

Because of this comment may I respectfully recommend using these pages to make something other than the book? Perhaps as basket walls to be able to see them daily? Or as the covers to a handmade book or photo album? It would be really cool to have them as photo album covers where the photos are also (printed onto) fabric and perhaps embellished with embroidery. You could do special pics for certain family members or special friends.

Update: I found a very cool binding technique by a woman I follow called Ann Wood.

Unfortunately, I had already joined two squares back to back with tiny blanket stitches so I am not going to take them apart.

I do like your idea of having them accessible, @AntBee . I think for these I am going to attach a small ring in the corner and just put them on a larger ring. I’ll do that for the 20 or so I already have and then start a different project for the rest of the embroidery pages.

Thanks!

I was going to suggest something like this, but wasn’t sure you wanted to/could put holes in them. My mom made me a felt ABC book when I was little and she attached the pages with ribbon threaded through holes. Nothing fancy. Though I’m sure her pages were thinner and there were fewer of them, it still made for a thick little book!

I am going to sew the rings on…now I am thinking top and bottom corner to make it more like a book…can’t hurt to try out different ways to see what works for me.

I am on a mini mission to not keep things hidden in a box…hence, my orphan block projects and this one as well.

You’re rocking that mission!!

I love Ann Wood!

Enjoy playing around and finding what speaks to you!

You could do a volume 1 and volume 2 as well. Make some cool covers for them that coordinate.

I got this idea when I saw @Rlynn ‘s earrings!

It works! I only had small rings, but I can get larger ones to make my book bigger. I’ll still have to divide them into smaller books and make some sort of cover (or not!), but it is a good solution for me!

I am going to add a middle ring to make it less wobbly…or maybe I could attach the rings to a cover…still playing with ideas!
