My second set of inkbox cards in the recent swap was made for @geekgirl. She had the best themes! It was hard to choose three.
The Ringmaster
The first card’s theme is “Undiscovered Dr. Seuss rhymes or characters.” Not sure about undiscovered, but we never see the ringmaster of Circus McGurkus…
I tried using alcohol marker at first. That was hideous.
Instead, I redid the card with gouache so the painting would have that flat, illustrative feel so characteristic of Dr. Seuss. Unfortunately, I zoomed in a little too close on the character. I wish I’d done a full-body view of him in the circus ring to really capture the ringmaster feel.
Cloud Dancer
Card number 2 was inspired by Carlee’s dragons theme. Because you can never have enough dragons. Watercolor, colored pencil, and ink.
A Watery World
Card number 3 was inspired by Carlee’s “Underwater villages” theme. I tried to pack a ton of details into that tiny space, played with colors, and based the house shapes off pictures of real coral. Plus I love that coral arch. The round orange house in the lower left looks like a sunken clementine but I’m trying not to fixate on that. Watercolor, colored pencil, and ink.
