Knitted Cowl Pattern Recs?

About this time of year, I really really wish that last year, I’d knitted myself a thick, tight fitting cowl/balaclava for when I am forced to go out in the frozen wasteland that is Wisconsin in January, but I have never found anything that seems quite right. Has anyone made something like this successfully and could point me in the direction of a pattern? My frozen nose would thank you!

I have made Trav’s Balakava a few times for friends. It is an easy knit. FREE.

Also, I am currently working on a hoodola.. I like how she added the cinched feature so you can really close up around your face. It is pretty versatile. $8.00

If you are looking for some adventurous knitting, the above also has several other hoods and warm things! She did a KAL for the Cowltopus, which was a fun knit.

I hate the cold.

Thank you for the recommendations! I do okay with the cold until it gets “negative numbers as the high” cold…

I made this one for my husband and he still loves it (I don’t remember paying for it though):

I also just made the vessel cowl last month. It was a quick, fun project:

I’ve also been eyeing this more basic pattern to use up a skein of thick and quick I have in my stash:

Let us know what you end up making!

I really liked the Ollie pattern. It’s written for DK weight, but I used worsted and it was fine. It would be easy to modify your stitch counts to use a heavier yarn/bigger needle if you wanted.

But, I really want to make one of these, because Michigan winters also suck. (I would still be wearing a hat underneath this one, though.)

Came across another one that looks promising:

Also, I found that with my vessel cowl, going down a needle size (unintentionally in my case) made for a snugger fit that hugs the neck and face a bit better.

Thank you! I have some handspun that might work well for that one!

The arctic chill looks so versatile! We are supposed to get into the minus degrees this week.
