Larks Head Bound Journal and Journal Page

This was my first attempt at the Lark’s Head binding technique.

I used mixed media paper cut to 6”x9” and 2 pieces of cardboard cut to 6.5”x9.5”

It was easy but a little tedious. Each page is sewn on one by one. But it allows for the book to open flat.

I’ve already done the first page

The first layer was doodles and markers

Then that was mostly covered with layers of gesso and shades of blue acrylic. The flowers were drawn with my eyes closed (I was following a video). Then colored in with Dina Wakely scribble sticks and water color paints.
Added white gel pen accents, asemic writing and splatters

The book came out gorgeous! I love that it lays completely flat. The cover and the inside page are so pretty. The layers are just amazing.

This is really cool! A book that lays flat- perfect for an artist like you! And I love that first piece. So amazing how it went from vibrant and loud to soft and serene. Love it!

It’s only 15 pages. It was supposed to be 20. The video said to cut the string 3 feet long but that just wasn’t enough. I had wanted to have longer strands left to tie beads on.
But I’ll know better for next time

Good idea to use cardboard for the covers and your knots look good! I really like the first page you did. It has so much energy and the colors work so well together. I’d be tempted to take it out of the book so I could display it :joy:
