This is the first in a series. My new obsession is repurposing vintage cut & sew fabric panels.
Stem stitch is a great stitch
No way! French knots are the best!
ooooh things heating up in the stitching fandommmmm!
I’m cheering for the seed stitch.
Yes! French knots are great!
I do like a good seed stitch!
You just described everything about my embroidery style.
I make it up as I go along, and add some flowers to hide the misteaks
Ha! I see what you did there.
Satin! … ooh no, blanket! … no, split!
Boullion roses are the most magical.
Of course, they’re basically French knots on steroids.
Does anyone have tips for getting a successful little bullion tube?
Boullion:
Practice
Long needle
Don’t wrap too tightly
You can shape it around other elements, or create a straight tube and couch it into shape.
It can be used for lots of stuff; I even used it for dragon toes!
Awesome! Thanks for the tips!
Seed stitch is lovely. French knots are too.
But backstitch will always have my heart, especially once I found I could make it super floss-efficient by doing a dashed line and filling in the dashes on the way back.
Simple pleasures!
I invented “cheapskate’s stitch.” You pick up a single thread of the fabric every half inch or so. Practically invisible from the back, and ever so thrifty. I use it for a quick outline or fill.
Smart!
I feel this way about whipped backstitch, especially when it comes to replicating handwriting. It smoothly covers curves and bits of wonkiness, and looks like a lovely, solid pen stoke almost. I have been practicing my stem stitch, as well, though, as it is faster. Still not the favorite, however.
Whipped backstitch looks fun!
